Enhancing Physical Education
At Christleton Primary School, we are committed to providing a Physical Education programme that goes above and beyond national curriculum expectations. Our aim is to enhance the curriculum, widen opportunities, and provide enriching experiences for all our children.
Curriculum Enhancements
Inclusive Activities:
We ensure that all children have the opportunity to participate and excel in physical activities, regardless of their abilities.
A highlight in our health week is our non-competitive team games day.
On this day, the chidlren work across year groups in their house teams to complete a range of physical activities.
The school also participates in events organised by the School Sports Partnership which are non-competative.
Health and Fitness Education:
Along with sports and games, we educate children about the importance of health and fitness, promoting a healthy lifestyle from a young age.
Our children learn the importance of a healthy diet.
They construct their own fruit kababs and fruit salads.
Specialised Coaching:
We offer specialised coaching in various sports and activities to help children explore their interests and talents.
We utilise external coaches to enhance our curriculum and to provide expert coaching and input.
Holistic Approach:
Our Physical Education curriculum is designed to not only focus on physical development but also on mental well-being and social skills.
Orienteering
We are fortunate to have fantastic school grounds. Within these we have a fully set up orienteerring course. The course is used throughouth the year for a range of subjects and encourages children to work with each other to complete their course.
Yoga and Mindfulness
We have used external coaches to come into school and work with the children to understand themselves and learn how to relax.
Residential Experiences
Planned residential experiences in the junior year groups provide the children with a range of eperiences.
These expereinces enable the children to develop new skills, challenge themselves, solve problems and work with others.
Race 4 Life / Charity Runs
We hold charity events each year where the children are actively engaged.
Our Race 4 Life / Charity runs, not only provide an opportunity for physical exercise but raise money for worthy causes.
Widening Opportunities
Variety of Sports:
Children at Christleton Primary School have the chance to engage in a wide range of sports and activities, exposing them to different disciplines and helping them discover their passions.
We provide our children with the opportunity to participate in a range of sports.
Inter-School Competitions:
We encourage participation in inter-school competitions, providing children with the opportunity to showcase their skills and sportsmanship.
Our football teams compete in various leagues and events during the year.
We have many talented cricket players. We have reached the county finals several times in the last few years.
Our children particpate in the CSSA cross country events.
Clubs and Extracurricular Activities:
We offer various sports clubs and extracurricular activities to further enhance children's physical abilities and teamwork skills outside of regular school hours.
We provide a range of extra-curricular clubs.
These clubs have been provided by external parteners or delivered by our own staff.
Community Engagement:
Our Physical Education programme extends beyond the school grounds, involving the community in events and initiatives that promote active lifestyles.
Enriching Experiences
Outdoor Education:
We believe in the benefits of outdoor education and regularly incorporate outdoor activities and sports into our curriculum.
Our Forest school environment provides the opportunity for the children to be physically active, learn new skills and work with each other.
Guest Instructors:
We invite guest instructors and athletes to inspire and mentor our students, offering them valuable insights and experiences.
We have been lucky enough to have external instruxtirs visit the school and enhance our curriculum. In the images above a university lecturer worked with the children to understand movement and how their muscles work.
Sports Events:
Throughout the year, we host sports events and tournaments that not only foster healthy competition but also promote teamwork and camaraderie among the children.
As part of our health week we provide the children with the chance to be competitive both as individuals and within a team.
Celebrating Achievements:
We celebrate individual and team achievements in sports, encouraging children to strive for excellence and be proud of their accomplishments
We celebrate our childrens achievements wether that be participating in school games, representing the school or acheiveing success outside of the school day.
Inspiring
We look to provide the children with inspirational experiences. These experiences encourage the children to strive to be the best they can be.
Beth Tweddle visited the school and spoke to the children about her personal journey through the Olympics to Skating on Ice.
She discussed the benefit of physical exercise and opportunities for the children to engage in free gymnastic taster sessions locally.
It was a very inspirational assembly and encouraged the children to reflect on their resilience, determination, leadership skills, team work and other characteristics they may develop through sports participation.
Our children have had the opportunity to perform at Liverpool Football Clubs Academy.
